PROGRAM SUMMARY:
Real estate is one of the top four areas of law resulting in Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission grievances filed against attorneys. This program discusses common situations that pose ethical dilemmas for the real estate practitioner and the relevant Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct. Examples include the following:
- Representing multiple parties to a real estate transaction;
- Taking referrals from real estate brokers/agents;
- Deed preparation;
- Acting as title agent; and
- Acting as escrow agent.
The program also includes a review the following ethics references:
- Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct;
- Illinois State Bar Association Ethics Opinions; and
- Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission Opinions.
