ATG Holds Eighth Annual Harold I. Levine Institute

Peter Birnbaum, ATG President, addressed a full-house (170+ people) at the Eighth Annual Harold I. Levine Real Estate Institute at the UBS Tower in Chicago, November 14, 2012. This year’s topics included updates on big regulatory changes in the industry that will affect all real estate practitioners and title agents. Peter reported on the work ATG has been working with the American Land Title Association (ALTA) to preserve the role of attorney/agents in the new settlement process.
ATG has had the privilege of hosting Harold's son, attorney Sam Levine, and his mother Barbara, shown here, at all the Levine Real Estate Institute events. Sam is a longtime ATG member and a frequent speaker and author, like his father.
Michelle Korsmo, ALTA CEO (Washington, D.C.), is shown here with Jerry Gorman, President of ATG Legal Education. Jerry is the organizer of all programming for ATG’s legal education arm, and a member of the ALTA Forms Committee. Michelle spoke about the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and ALTA’s Best Practices for title agents. Not pictured is Justin Ailes, ALTA Vice President of Government Affairs, who also spoke during the morning session.
Several of the speakers at the Eighth Annual Harold I. Levine Real Estate Institute: Richard Heavner, ATG Member (Heavner, Scott, Beyers & Mihlar, LLC, Decatur and Chicago, Illinois); Jerry Gorman, ATG Legal Education President; Sam Levine, ATG member (Arnstein & Lehr, Chicago, Illinois); and Tania Snyder, ATG Senior Managing Attorney. Rick spoke about current mortgage foreclosure issues; Jerry covered the CFPB’s new Closing Disclosure document; and Sam and Tania presented a caselaw and legislative update. Attorney Mike Rooney (not pictured) presented a session on class action lawsuits versus lawyer/title agents and the lawyer's proper role.
