ATG President and CEO Peter Birnbaum (far left) was on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with Secretary of State Jesse White (center), Governor Pat Quinn, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and other dignitaries and Jesse White Foundation board members.

The 25,000 square-foot facility includes a gymnasium, workout facility, locker rooms, computer labs, and meeting spaces. The facility will also provide a permanent home for the Jesse White Tumblers, as well as much needed educational and recreation space for community residents on the near-north and near-west sides. The official Grand Opening will be Wednesday, November 12 (see Invitation for details and ticket prices).

The Jesse White Foundation believes in community growth and sustainability through local, at-risk youth by specifically investing in a well-rounded education and cultural experience. Through focused energy in educational tutoring, athletics, and scholarship resources, the Jesse White Foundation provides young people with a safe place to become physically fit and mentally sound.

Peter Birnbaum is a long-term supporter of the Jesse White Tumblers (who have performed at many ATG events, including our recent 50th anniversary celebration) and the Jesse White Foundation, where he currently serves as president of the board of directors.

"The slogan for Jesse's Community Center, 'Building for a Stronger Community. Strong Minds. Strong Bodies. Strong Community,' rings true in all respects. The Jesse White Tumblers have impacted thousands of kids over the last three decades. Now with the Community Center, there is a safe haven for athletic and academic enrichment for at-risk youth, and a place where the Foundation can support these kids through its network of mentoring programs." Birnbaum said.

ATG's Sarah Boeckman serves as Secretary of the Jesse White Foundation and has been integral in the completion of the Community Center as well as other projects. For more information, watch this video.
