Birnbaum, President and CEO, Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund, Inc., honoree of The Chicago Bar Association; Hon. Jorge Ortiz, judge of the Lake County Circuit Court, honoree of the Puerto Rican Bar Association.

Birnbaum and honorees from other sponsoring bar associations were recognized at a luncheon on April 17, 2013, at The Standard Club in Chicago. The CBA co-hosts the Vanguard Awards Luncheon with several other bar associations: Asian American Bar Association of Chicago, Cook County Bar Association, Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago, and the Puerto Rican Bar Association, each of which selects an honoree.

“The CBA is proud to co-host this event and recognize these outstanding individuals. This year’s luncheon honored lawyers, judges, and institutions that have made the law and the legal profession more accessible to and reflective of the community we serve. Peter is a shining example of that,” said Aurora Austriaco, president of the CBA, as well as a member of ATG and its board of directors.

Each of the sponsoring bar associations selected an honoree who has, through his or her efforts, increased access to justice for the whole community. While other bar associations bestow diversity awards, the Vanguard Awards differ because they allow lawyers from different communities to meet, share ideas, and be inspired by other exceptional lawyers and organizations.

Birnbaum has worked with underserved youth since he was a teen. For nearly thirty years, he has been actively involved Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago, as a volunteer, committee chair, board member, and board president.
