Donations for Feeding Illinois photoThrough Lawyers Feeding Illinois, the ISBA and its partner organizations hope to raise one million meals for Illinois citizens in need.

I am pleased to announce that ATG is sponsoring the Illinois State Bar Association’s new initiative, Lawyers Feeding Illinois. As we head into the winter holiday season, the timing seems perfect to turn our thoughts to helping others.

John Thies—current ISBA president, Urbana lawyer, and old ATG friend/member—is rallying lawyers to meet the challenge of hunger in Illinois, and ATG is joining him in a big way as both a sponsor and a participant.

The ISBA is encouraging lawyers and legal organizations to form teams to participate in Lawyers Feeding Illinois (LFI), a competitive food and fund-raising campaign. Money and food donations raised through LFI will support the work of eight major food banks that serve every county of Illinois, so the whole state will benefit.

The goal is to provide one million meals to Illinois citizens in need. We are proud to work with Lisa Madigan, Illinois Attorney General, as sponsors of this important initiative.

ATG has registered as a team and all ATG offices will be designated drop sites for food donations. We will encourage staff, lawyers, and all parties to closings to bring canned goods for the cause. In addition to encouraging ATG members to participate by donating food or funds via ATG, we have asked specific members to have their offices be drop sites so all corners of Illinois are covered.

The teams will compete to earn points by collecting food and funds. All donations (minus processing fees and campaign-related expenses) will support a regional food bank, so your contribution directly supports your local community.

We congratulate the ISBA and its president, John Thies, on this program. It’s also worth pointing out that we have a long history with John and his Urbana firm—John’s father was law partners with our late founder, Stanley Balbach, when they and a few other local lawyers founded ATG in 1964. I love the full-circle nature of this partnership, and working with fellow lawyers to do something good for the people of Illinois.

Stay tuned for more details on how ATG employees and others can participate in this important cause. Until then, check out www.lawyersfeedingil.org for more information.

I wish you and your family a very Happy Holiday Season!

Peter Birnbaum
