The American Land Title Association (ALTA) hosted an online TRID Townhall, Tuesday, July 28, 2015, to share what the industry should be doing now to prepare for the implementation of the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosures rule.

The Townhall featured four title industry experts: Michelle Korsmo, ALTA chief executive officer; Bill Burding, ALTA Board member; EVP/general counsel, Orange Coast Title Co., Santa Ana, California; Diane Evans NTP; ALTA president; vice president, Land Title Guarantee Co., Denver, Colorado; and Dan Mennenoh, ALTA Board member; president, H.B. Wilkinson Title Co., Galena, Illinois.

The panel members answered questions ranging from how to handle disclosure of title charges in simultaneous-issue states (such as Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin), advice to small practitioners juggling TRID and Best Practices, how to best explain the use of the word “optional” in relation to owners title insurance on the Closing Disclosure Form, and the importance of communicating with lenders and realtors in your area.
