Indiana Title Agents Must Strictly Adhere to Filed Rates

We remind our Indiana agents to strictly adhere to filed rates. In a recent audit, the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) found that Ohio-based title insurance underwriter American Homeland Title Agency Inc. and its Indiana agents were overcharging policyholders. The IDOI ordered the company to repay consumers $42,202 and pay more than $70,000 in administrative penalties. In addition, the insurer and its agents had their licenses revoked.

Among the reasons for the administrative penalties, the agency failed to report 250 transactions to the Residential Real Estate Acquisition of Licensee Information and Numbers (RREAL IN) database. RREAL IN was established by the Indiana Department of Insurance in 2010 to help combat fraud.
