Crain's Adds Birnbaum to Notable Nonprofit Board Leaders for 2024

Crain's Notable Peter Birnbaum

Nonprofit contribution: Birnbaum has served as board president of The Jesse White Foundation since 2012, leading efforts to establish the Jesse White Community Center, a facility in partnership with the Chicago Park District. The center serves local residents and supports Jesse White Foundation programs, including The Jesse White Tumblers.

Biggest professional win: As CEO, Birnbaum led Advocus’ merger with Rate in 2022, yielding an average return of 23,900% for Advocus’ 2,200 attorney-shareholders. As chief justice, he has streamlined operations for timely case resolutions.

Other contributions: Birnbaum received numerous awards, including the Justice John Paul Stevens Award and the Vanguard Award for diversity, and was named a Chicago-Kent College of Law Alumnus of Distinction.

 

Cara Collective at Annual Tribute to the Stars Event

Advocus President and CEO Peter Birnbaum received the Thomas M. Owens Mission Award from Cara Collective at its Tribute to the Stars event, November 13, 2024. Cara Collective provides pathways out of poverty for motivated job seekers through personal and professional training, job placement, and supportive resources. Peter and ATG/Advocus have supported Cara's mission for more than 20 years.
 
Tribute to the Stars is Cara Collective's most mission-focused event: A special breakfast reception and super-sized version of its signature morning ritual, “Motivations,” a time where Cara participants,  alumni, staff, and guests share their stories.  Audience members heard from Cara graduates and the corporate and community partners who have been instrumental in their success. The event was attended by 300+ business and philanthropic leaders.
