Realtors® and "In-House Counsel" Subject of ATG® Town Hall Meeting
ATG recently conducted town hall meetings in Oak Brook, Palos Park, and Lake Forest to discuss issues and problems facing ATG members and other transactional real estate attorneys. Topics discussed included recent efforts by certain Realtors to steer legal business to "in-house counsel" and away from independent counsel. ATG president Peter Birnbaum condemned this direct challenge to the Quinlan & Tyson decision and discussed the need for independent legal counsel in real estate transactions.
Along with Mr. Birnbaum, program speakers included David Huffman, ATG Vice President, Chicago Operations; Hugh Pollard, ATG Senior Manager, Escrow Department; and Henry Shulruff, ATG Vice President, Business Development. Ninety members attended the three sessions where they also learned about the services offered by two of ATG's subsidiaries, Guaranty Trust Company and Capital Funding Corporation.
