ATG® MEMBERS HONORED AS ISBA SENIOR COUNSELLORS
In December the Illinois State Bar Association honored its members who reached their 50th anniversary as members of the bar in 2007. The following ATG members were honored as ISBA Senior Counsellors (from Illinois unless otherwise specified):
| Jack O. Asher, Paris Glenn E. Benckendorf, Peoria Rex L. Brown, Decatur Floyd E. Crowder, Columbia Clarence W. DeMoss, Nashville James J. Elson, Canton Wallace S. Feldman, Sterling Robert C. Hultquist, Oconomowoc, Wis. |
Douglas Marti, Greenville Robert W. Ohlsen, Decatur Sherwin I. Pogrund, Chicago Paul E. Presney, Springfield G. William Richards, Aurora George Woodcock, Mt. Carmel William Wylie (retired), Plainfield |
ATG founding board member James Elson and long-time member Rex Brown were among the honorees asked to reflect on the past 50 years in the November 2007 issue of the ISBA Bar News. They and their contemporaries witnessed more far-reaching changes in the legal community than has occurred at any other time in its history.
In his article, Mr. Elson considered these changes, including courtroom security, legal advertising, and technological advances. "Many things considered indispensible today were virtually unknown then-computers, pocket calculators, fax machines, cell phones, e-mail, and conference telephoning to name a few," said Mr. Elson. "Many of today's counselors have never heard of carbon copies, onion skins, and fountain pen and ink shorthand court reporters."
Mr. Brown noted that the ability to look back on half a century of experience gives a unique perspective, and he is a realist about the profession: "Yes, lawyers do have an image problem. I believe [it] can be improved by participating in civic functions ... honestly, it's also where your business comes from."
ATG congratulates its members and the other attorneys on achieving this landmark in their careers.
