ATG Legal Education and the University Of Illinois College Of Law conducted the programAmerica’s Mortgage Crisison Friday, October 10, 2008, as part of Homecoming weekend at the U of I. The program featured a diverse panel of legal experts bringing their unique perspectives on today’s devastating financial crisis to an audience of practicing attorneys and law students.

The program opened with Judge Thomas Perkins’ excellent analysis:The Origins of the Subprime Mortgage Crisis. Thistranscriptof his presentation is an excellent treatise on how the secondary mortgage market functions in the U.S. and how greed distorted and de-railed the American Dream. Professor Christine Hurt probed how the government and real estate industry are responding, including a review the bailout bills that made their way through contentious Congressional debate. The course concluded with ATG member and IRELA President Ralph Schumann addressing what attorneys can do to help clients facing foreclosure, including short sale strategies.
