Peter Birnbaum Celebrates 35 Years at ATG

Few companies today have the longevity ATG has enjoyed, 52-years strong. Much of our success is due to a solid base of loyal member attorneys and a core of hardworking long-term employees, including ATG President and CEO, Peter Birnbaum.

Peter started at ATG in 1981 as a law clerk. There were a handful of people in our Chicago office and a dozen in Champaign. In 1991 he became our President, and this year he celebrates his 35th anniversary. Under his leadership, ATG has developed into a major force in the Midwest title insurance scene, a leading lawyer service organization, and a voice for the legal profession.

Peter has been honored, lauded, celebrated, and has more pickle dishes (what he calls the many plaques, etched bowls, and other awards that line his office shelves) than you can shake a stick at. He’s on a first-name basis with celebrities, legislators, and his kids’ teachers. A great lawyer, leader, dad, and friend — he even plays drums in a band.

In a recent tribute, ATG Senior Vice President Augie Butera wrote, "...Peter has been a friend and mentor to so many of us and I can honestly say that there is no one that could have been a better boss for me. Please join me in congratulating Peter for his great service to ATG and the legal community."  From all of us, thanks, Peter!

Peter started at ATG in 1981 as a law clerk, while attending Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Peter is shown here before a meeting at the White House in January 1995. Founding board member Richard Hart (at right) along with founder Stanley Balbach and other early leaders laid the groundwork for ATG as the lawyer's advocate. In recent decades, Peter's leadership has taken ATG's lawyer-advocacy efforts to the next level.

Peter has played the drums since he was a kid. When we're lucky, he sits in at ATG events, as shown here at ATG's 2002 Holiday Reception. He is currently in a band that plays at Chicago venues. How many CEOs can say that?
