Peter J. Birnbaum, Chief Justice, Illinois Court of Claims

Peter Birnbaum photoIn addition to his role as ATG President and Chief Executive Officer, Peter Birnbaum has served on the Illinois Court of Claims since 2004. His seat was recently reconfirmed by the Illinois Senate based on the appointment from Governor Bruce Rauner.

Eleven-year-old Madeline Birnbaum sits with her father, Illinois Court of Claims Chief Justice Peter Birnbaum, in the Illinois Senate Chambers during the confirmation of his appointment by Governor Bruce Rauner. Birnbaum, a judge on the Court since 2004 and Chief Justice since 2015, retains his role as president and CEO of Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund, Inc. The Illinois Court of Claims was established by the legislature in 1889 as a forum of limited jurisdiction to render decisions on monetary claims and lawsuits against the state. Birnbaum is one of seven judges on the Court of Claims.
