Public Act 98-0628 (IL)
Emailing the Tax Bill
Effective date: July 1, 2014
Statutes Amended – 35 ILCS 105/2; 35 ILCS 200/20-5 and 20-20
The law amends the Property Tax Code to allow township and county property tax collectors to send the tax bill via email at the property owner or taxpayer’s request. The law provides that the tax collector must receive a written request from the property owner or taxpayer prior to sending the tax bill by email.
The amendments do not affect the tax collector’s requirement to send a copy of the tax bill at least 30 days prior to the date that the taxes become due, nor do the amendments affect the tax collector’s requirement to certify the identity of taxpayers requesting an address change in a county of less than 3,000,000 inhabitants.
